20-hour or 40-hour Practicum Supplement

In addition to the 100-hour Intensive TEFL/TESOL Certificate offered face-to-face and the 120-hour and 150-hour Online TEFL/TESOL Certificate, CESL provides students the opportunity to add classroom teaching experience through an on-site Practicum. Many institutions abroad now require that students who have completed an online TEFL/TESOL Certificate have at least some classroom experience where they can apply the theoretical knowledge of Second Language Acquisition theory, ESL/EFL teaching methodologies and classroom management techniques to the classroom. The Practicum is only available to those who already have a TEFL/TESOL Certificate. Students are required to enroll in an academic session but have flexibility to complete the required hours.

CESL offers two options, based on the number of hours of teaching and observation required:

20-Hour Practicum

The 20-hour Practicum combines 17 hours of classroom observations and 3 hours of teaching experience in the ESL classroom under the supervision of a CESL faculty member acting as mentor. The 20-hour Practicum is available during CESL academic year and must be completed within a CESL scheduled eight-week session.

40-Hour Practicum

The 40-hour Practicum combines 34 hours of classroom observations and 6 hours of teaching experience in the ESL classroom under the supervision of a CESL faculty member acting as mentor. The 40-hour Practicum is available during CESL academic year and must be completed within a CESL scheduled sixteen-week semester.
