Examples of Our Custom Programs

  • ESL students in local high schools participated in a 4-week summer program focused on language instruction, academic skills, and hands-on activities on campus. They participated in on-campus activities, such as making creative projects in U of A’s maker space, CATalyst Studios, or developing their digital literacy skills in the U of A’s Integrated Learning Center.  Students got the opportunity to develop language skills and life skills and also to envision themselves as part of the university community.
  • Students from Taiwan, Mexico, Colombia, and the U.S. participated in a 2-week teen program with daily intensive language instruction and social and cultural engagement activities. Students developed their English skills in and out of the classroom and made new friendships with other teens from different cultures.
  • In response to changing student demographics, K-12 teachers and administrators in St. Kitts and Nevis participated in online teacher training and professional development workshops. CESL offered a specialized version of our 120-hour Teacher Training certificate with assignments tailored to the needs of these educators. In addition, program administrators participated in customized workshops on curriculum development and language program administration which were designed to suit their unique needs.
  • Online summer English maintenance classes: Students at a university in Kazakhstan participated in online classes to keep up their English skills over the summer. Students met with their teachers in live online sessions twice a week for ten weeks to keep up and develop their English language skills during their summer university break. As their program is a dual-degree program with the University of Arizona, this was an important part of supporting student success.
  • English and American Culture classes online: College students in Wuhan, China took online English language classes to supplement their studies and learn about life in the U.S. and Arizona. Over the course of two weeks, students took two hours of conversation class and one hour of culture class every day. At the end, students presented what they had learned, showcasing their English skills and sharing their stories.
  • Advanced Writing Classes for International University Students: Senior students at a science and technology university in Eastern Europe participated in online classes which developed their advanced writing skills and which also instructed them in writing a paper presenting the benefits of their research for humanity. Students were also guided in submitting proposals to conferences and other professional skills.
  • A company from Brazil sent four employees to attend our Intensive English Program for four weeks. They took all the classes all day long for four weeks to strengthen their spoken and written English. In addition to joining the IEP, they also had the opportunity to join in CESL activities as clubs to promote English practice and cultural understanding.
