We are accepting applications until April 19th, 2024 and if enrollment minimum is met - tuition will be due April 22nd (see custom refund policy under costs).

This course is designed to train aspiring language teachers in the fundamentals of EFL teaching, as defined by the TESOL International Association’s position statement on TEFL/TESL/TESOL certificate programs. The curriculum is firmly grounded within contemporary teaching theories and best practices. It has been designed to not only give students the necessary knowledge required to be an effective teacher of English, but also the critical insights, understanding and awareness needed to apply these concepts in the classroom.

This is an in-person four-week course that is offered twice in the summer. Instruction is delivered on the University of Arizona campus by CESL faculty together with an online component. It consists of 70 hours of coursework and 30 hours of teaching Practicum. This course includes the following components:

a two-hour orientation the week before classes start
in-person classes from 5:30 to 8:30 pm every weekday (students take modules on Second Language Acquisition Theory, Methodology, Practicum Seminar, Classroom Management, and Assessment)
observations of at least 12 hours classes in CESL different ESL programs during the day
a teaching Practicum with actual English language learners from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on the first three Saturdays
graduation ceremony on the last Saturday.

⇒ Students who need a minimum of 12o hour of training can supplement this course with a 20-hour Practicum or a 20-hour Online Extension. The 20-hour Online Extension can be completed at the same time as or within a month of completing the 100-hour Intensive TEFL/TESOL Certificate course. The 20-hour Online Extension consists of three modules on English Language Fundamentals, Language and Culture, and Trends in Language Teaching that are offered completely online and on a self-paced basis. Students are required to submit three assignments at the end of the course together with a reflective essay. Tuition for the 20-hour Online Extension is $135.00.

Applicants whose First Language is not English might need to take CESL's English Proficiency Test (CEPT) if they don't have any other proof of English language proficiency. English proficiency must be demonstrated prior to being admitted to the program. (See other options above under Admissions Requirements.)

Refund Policy

If the course is canceled due to lack of enrollment, students have the option to refund tuition mins the application fee or transfer both tuition and application fee to the 120 Hour Online TEFL/TESOL Certificate Program

Admissions Requirements

In order to enroll in this TEFL/TESOL course, the following requirements must be met:

Provide proof of U.S. citizenship, permanent residency or full-time study visa status
Provide a valid photo identification document;
Have completed at least two years of college-level coursework;
Submit proof of MMR immunity before the beginning of classes;
Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate very independent English proficiency (B2 or higher according to the Common European Framework of Reference [CEFR]).

PROOF OF ENGLISH PROFICIENCY

Students whose First Language is not English, need to provide proof that they have the minimum English proficiency required to enroll in our TEFL/TESOL Certificate courses by submitting any of the following documentation:

Proof of U.S. permanent residency or citizenship;
Copy of a degree from or proof of being currently enrolled in a university from an English-speaking country;
CESL's own CEPT Full Academic test: it consists of a 90-minute computer test that assesses academic skills (Reading and Writing) as well as 15-minute online interview that assesses oral skills (Speaking). For more information, visit CEPT Full Academic.
English proficiency may also be documented by submitting the following test score reports (must be dated within 2 years of application date):
