What is conditional admission?
Conditional admission refers to an applicant being academically admissible to the University of Arizona, but the applicant still needs to meet the English proficiency requirement. Conditional admission is offered for all undergraduate programs. While the Online Undergraduate U-Track does NOT require conditional admission to the University of Arizona for admission to the program, its face-to-face version in Tucson does require conditional admission due to immigration regulations.
I don’t yet have conditional admission from the UA, but I would like to study in the UG U-Track Pathway. What can I do?
Don’t worry. You can start in the Online Undergraduate U-Track from home, and then you can apply for conditional admission to the University. You must apply for conditional admission at the University of Arizona through Admissions. Once you have conditional admission, you can then apply to the face-to-face U-Track Pathway program and receive your I-20 (the immigration document you’ll need to get your F-1 student visa). Alternatively, you can also enroll in our Intensive English Program, which has a pathway to the face-to-face U-Track Pathway Program.
Will I take university classes?
Yes! After completing Level 8 ESL courses, that have prepared you for your university-level courses, you will take a General Education class similar to courses any first-year UA student would be required to take in Levels 9 and 10 (Level 10 is optional). These are special CESL online sections of these courses, and they count for every major at the University of Arizona.
How long is each level?
How long will it take to finish my online U-Track Pathway studies?
CESL requires students to study in the program for 2 sessions (1 semester). You may choose to add on Level 10, depending on your admission goals for the University of Arizona.
Does my University Track Pathway GPA affect me once I'm fully admitted to the UA?
Yes. All of the grades you earn in your online UA courses count towards your undergraduate GPA. Although the grades in your CESL courses do NOT count towards your UA GPA, they will determine your progression through the program, as well as, your endorsement from the Online U-Track Pathway. Please see the student handbook for more information on advancement through the program.
How can I order official UA transcripts for a record of undergraduate courses completed?
You can find information on ordering UA transcripts through the Office of the Registrar.
If I complete one session of the Online Undergraduate U-Track Pathway, will I be automatically admitted to the UA?
No. You must complete at least two 8-week sessions of the Online Undergraduate U-Track. With conditional admission, there are three common ways to fulfill UA’s English language requirement for full admission:
- Complete two sessions of the Online U-Track Pathway and receive CESL Endorsement with a 2.0 GPA in Level 9 (students must pass all classes with a C or higher to receive endorsement).
- Earn the required TOEFL or IELTS score: Visit Admissions for more information on requirements.
In some cases, undergraduate-bound students may also enroll in a non-credit (no university classes) option in levels 8 0r 9. See the Graduate U-Track Program or email our office at email@example.com . Undergraduate bound students will be advised to take the face-to-face or Online University Track Pathway option, which includes a credit-bearing course.
Can I participate in CESL clubs and activities once I'm enrolled in the U-Track Pathway?
Yes! However, clubs normally meet in person during Mountain Standard Time in Tucson. So, while your time zone may prevent you from being virtually present at some activities, you are highly encouraged to participate in CESL’s online clubs and activities as you prefer.
